Date(s) - 10/05/2020
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

From choosing and researching a subject to shaping your story and finding a publisher, this presentation will cover the nuts and bolts of writing narrative nonfiction for young readers. We’ll explore research methods and sources, discuss successful books and why they work, examine voice and narrative arc, and share tools for pitching and selling your book.

Award-winning author Susanna Reich writes fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults, most recently Stand Up and Sing! Pete Seeger, Folk Music and the Path to Justice; Fab Four Friends: The Boys Who Became the Beatles; and Minette’s Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and Her Cat. She received the 2018 Rip Van Winkle Award for Outstanding Contributions to Children’s Literature, the Tomás Rivera Award for José! Born to Dance, and an NCTE Orbis Pictus Honor for Clara Schumann: Piano Virtuoso. For twelve years, Susanna was Senior Publicist and Account Services Manager at Raab Associates, where she worked with both publishers and authors. She is Immediate Past Chair of PEN America’s Children’s Book Committee and lives in Briarcliff Manor, NY, with her husband, children’s book author Gary Golio.
